The new Krylon design system was inspired by an old visual icon called the "5-Ball" that used to be featured on vintage Krylon packaging. Colorful, simple and graphic, the 5-Ball was the perfect jumping off point to create a modern visual language. It influenced the entire design system: from the colors we used, to the way we approached photography, to our custom typography treatments. So. Darn. Simple.
After the visual language was complete, sound became our next area of focus. Could we get a DIYer to recognize Krylon based purely on sound? That's what led to the development of these TV spots.
We created a new asset library for Krylon to feel more modern and colorful. This new photography system is featured everywhere – from their website to Instagram and Pinterest. These assets have become a huge part of the updated brand, inspiring DIYers throughout their project journey. A small sampling can be found below.
Below is a quick snapshot of our work to help launch Krylon's newest product: Krylon Fusion with 5x adhesion. A groundbreaking product that can stick to practically anything. Good news for DIYers.
As a hardcore do-it-yourselfer, Krylon was one of those labor of love projects for me. It's not often you get to reimagine an iconic brand. For the full Krylon case study, check out the video below.
